Strawberries – 2 for ยฃ3
Extra thick double cream – 90p (From the, ‘I’m Cheaper’ range)

Method

Divide the angel layer cake between 6 dessert dishes

Using about 300g of strawberries, remove stems and roughly chop.
Put in a saucepan with the caster sugar and cook until the strawberries are soft and the sugar has dissolved.
Leave to cool then whizz using a hand blender.

Drizzle the strawberry sauce over the cake then slice more strawberries (make sure you leave 6 small ones intact to decorate the top) and layer over the cake.

Top with cream and another drizzle of the sauce then just before serving, crush a meringue nest over the top.

Add a small strawberry and enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Personally I cannot bear shop bought cake, especially budget shop bought cake, but it can be good in trifle, soaked in a little brandy ๐Ÿ˜‰
