Dear Diary – Busy week

Dear diary

Busy Week

The blog has been a little neglected this week, what with Christmas shopping, present wrapping and family gatherings. It’s been a very busy week and the blog is probably going to be neglected for a while longer seeing as it’s Christmas in a week 🙂

I’m really excited and can’t wait for the girls to open their presents. Aiden’s going to be at his dad’s so he won’t get his from us until Boxing day.

Operation

This week, Ant’s mum went into the hospital for an operation that she’s been waiting for for a while. She was supposed to have it a few weeks ago but it got cancelled due to her surgeon being ill.
I haven’t seen her yet but Ant said she’s doing really well and the operation was a great success. She should be home on Friday 🙂

It’s the last day at school today and it was so lovely being able to switch the alarm from auto to OFF!

Star Cookies

The girls and Ant are busy packing lots of star cookies into tins so they can take them to school for their classmates. Ant and I had to finish baking and decorating them last night after the girls went to bed.
I thought I was going to be up until midnight until Ant came and reminded me that we have 2 ovens, one of them being a fan oven, so instead of baking 6 cookies at a time I could use 2 ovens and bake 18 at a time!

Christmas Party

We had our Christmas party at Slimming World yesterday and unbelievably, I lost 1lb at weigh in! I was expecting a gain after all the Baileys I had at Nanny’s Christmas party on Sunday!

Just in case I don’t do a diary post next week, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and new year 🙂

Dear Diary – It’s Christmas at our house!

Dear Diary – I’m just so rubbish at keeping a diary! I think I’ve missed a couple of weeks now.
I even set a reminder on my phone but instead of snoozing it, I switch it off meaning to do the post soon after but then I get distracted!

Dear Diary – The decorations are up!

Anyway, the usual things have been happening here, Christmas preparation for the most part. We’re doing a story advent as well as our activity advent and the usual chocolate advent calendars.

Book advent and activity advent - pop-up book called Hurry, Santa, Hurry! and the activity is to make paper chains

First Real Christmas Tree

We put the tree up on Sunday, our first ever real tree 🙂 and the garlands yesterday then today I had to take everything off the tree and redo it because the two sets of lights that Ant warned me wouldn’t last, didn’t last!
Some of the bulbs weren’t working and I thought they’d be ok but when I unplugged them last night before bed they both refused to come back on.

First Snowball Of The Season

My Christmas officially started when Ant made me my first snowball of the season while we were decorating the tree.
Ant making me a snowball while we’re decorating has become one of our traditions. The kids get one as well. Snowballs were the only alcohol we were ever allowed to have when we were children and it was such a treat when my dad would make us one.
Now our kids are going to have the same memories from their childhood that I have from mine, well Aiden and Ella will, Kaycee doesn’t like snowballs!

Christmas Jumper

Ant’s now allowed to wear his Christmas jumper again 🙂 I took it off him when he kept wearing it in January this year and now he’s trying to tell me it’s not Santa on the front, it’s a Scottish leprechaun!

Well, I think that’ll do for this week. I’ll try and remember next week but I’m not promising anything!

Dear Diary – November 25th

Dear Diary – Last week was a quiet one.
Kaycee got picked to play Snow White for the play her Brownie pack is doing at Christmas so she’s been very busy trying to learn her lines.

Dear Diary - Poinsettia

Ella’s Singing

Ella can be heard singing songs all the time because she’s been learning new ones for her class Christmas performance and Ant’s painted the last two shelves of the built-in bookcase at the side of the fire for me so I’ll soon be able to get everything put back and have a proper living room again!

Nearly Christmas :o)

In other news, it’s only one month until Christmas….Yay!!

I love Christmas and last week I bought the remaining few books I needed for our story advent. I’ve now got to wrap them all while the kids are away this weekend so I’m going to do them Saturday afternoon while watching Christmas movies 🙂

Real Christmas Tree

We’ve been checking out the real Christmas trees in pots at Asda as I’ve wanted a real one for years. They’re smaller than I’m used to so we’re going to put it on a coffee table. I’m hoping if I take good care of it, I can make it last year after year.
I bought the poinsettia you can see in the photo above, from Asda. It was a bargain at £2.50 🙂

We’re planning on putting up our tree and decorations on the 7th and I can’t wait! I think I get just as excited as the girls 🙂
The weather is certainly helping to get us in the Christmas mood. It’s been very cold and frosty and this morning the water in the paddling pool (which should have been put away months ago but no one wants the job of cleaning it out!) had a layer of ice on it. Ella loved it!

Dear Diary – November 17th

November 17th. Dear Diary

November 17th – I can’t believe I forgot to do my weekly post again last week and this one should have been posted yesterday!

Well, that’s not exactly true, I can believe it because my memory is rubbish and I forgot to set a reminder on my phone!
I’m doing that now so I don’t forget again 🙂

Our week included a birthday for the super wonderful husband, a Chinese takeaway paid for by him with his birthday money as a treat for us! A new role for Kaycee at school and a lovely birthday lunch at the pub where one of Ant’s older children works.

It was really nice spending time with Kellyann, Jervais, Granddad, Jourdain and his girlfriend, Nettie. It’s not often Ant gets to spend time with his older children without the small ones being around so they went to Nanny’s for the afternoon while we for lunch.

The girls had already celebrated with Ant on his birthday, making him gingerbread cards instead of paper cards and instead of a cake because he’s not a big fan of cake!
Ella decided she didn’t want to make a card, though, she wanted to make Christmas cookies for daddy instead!

The next day we also celebrated with a Chinese takeaway. I cracked open the Shloer that I’d been saving for Christmas and Ant fetched some lager from the off-licence. He doesn’t drink very often so it was a nice birthday treat for him.
The kids thought it was great to be able to sit in front of the tv with their takeaway and Shloer and watch Diary of a Wimpy Kid 🙂

The Chinese meal was delicious and totally worth however many syns it was because I’d not had a Chinese in over a year!
The next afternoon I also had fish and chips for lunch so I’m not expecting great things at my weigh in on Wednesday but life is for living and I’ll be sure to have a better week this week 🙂

Kaycee’s very excited to be taking on a new role at school, that of junior PCSO. She had to write a speech and read it to her class so they could vote for who they thought would make the best PCSOs. I think three children were picked and she was so happy when she told me she was one of them 😀

I think that’s about it for this week 🙂

Dear Diary – Our Week, a day late!

Somehow I forgot to do our dear diary post last week so this one will cover the last two weeks, depending on how much I can remember!

Dear Diary

Charity Shop Interview

I went for an interview at our local charity shop last week as I applied to be a volunteer. The interview went well, as did my first afternoon.
I found all the procedures for sorting and pricing the clothes, bedding, curtains etc really easy to pick up and I was fine on the steamer, but then after managing a laundry it would have been a bit embarrassing if I weren’t!

I really enjoy working there. All the people are lovely and it’s great to get out and chat to people instead of being at home all the time.
Also, I get to see all the books as they come in and can have the first pick before they go out on the shelves!
I’ve already put about 10 children’s Christmas books to the side for me to pick up next week. I want to collect 24 books so I can wrap them up and the girls can open one each night at bedtime during advent 🙂

Halloween

This week the girls were eagerly awaiting Halloween because they were going to a party with my best friend, Jo.

They had a great time if the photos on Facebook are anything to go by! Kaycee said she was too hot all night because she did loads of dancing 🙂

They phoned last night to say they were going to see some fireworks at a public display in town. They were very excited. They’d been asking if we could have some fireworks in the garden but I’m hoping we don’t have to now they’ve been to a proper display!

Brownie’s Christmas Fair

Kaycee had a friend round for the day on Thursday. They both go to Brownies and next Saturday is the Brownie’s Christmas fayre, Instead of going in uniform and helping out on the Brownie stalls, they want to rent a table and run their own raffle.

They’ve borrowed some money from Ant and he took them to the shops to buy chocolate and biscuits for the hamper prize.

They made posters and decorated the box for the hamper then arranged all the prizes inside. I must say it looks really good.
They’re going to have a small Christmas tree on the table with shaped gift tags hanging from it. You pay a pound, pick a gift tag and write your name and number on the back then put it in a box for the winner to picked randomly when all the gift tags have been sold.
If they sell all the gift tags they’ve worked out they should make £10 each after paying Ant back for the table rent and the raffle prize.
They’ll then probably spend their earnings on all the other stalls at the fayre!!

Movies 24

Talking of Christmas (which I’m sure I’m allowed to do now Halloween is over, right?!), Movies 24 has now changed to Christmas 24 and this makes me very happy! Admittedly, I’ve been watching Christmas for the past week because True Movies changed to True Christmas a week or so ago and though I tried not to watch them in October, I couldn’t help myself!

Dear Diary – Our week Ocotober 19th

This week has been mainly about hair and a wedding!

I don’t really bother about my hair. It’s long with lots of split ends and it needs colouring but I just tend to tie it back out of the way and only let it back down again when I’m going to bed.

Dear Diary

The girls, however, love headbands, hair clips and trying different styles and I have to admit, I’m not that good at doing hair!

We found some videos that had been shared on Facebook and one of the designs was a hair bow with the hair actually made to look like a bow. They made it look super easy but when I tried on Kaycee’s and Ella’s hair it was rubbish.
It wasn’t easy at all and it just wouldn’t work.

I then tried a different style, a braid that’s like a fishtail but is done differently apparently (I have no idea how to do a fishtail so wouldn’t know the difference!) and it still turned out rubbish.

We spent Wednesday night doing the curls (with the tongs Ant bought me when we were getting married nearly 10 years ago!) so we could try different styles and see which they liked best.
After discovering it was going to take hours to do the curls with the tongs we turned to YouTube and decided to do rag curls.
They worked brilliantly 🙂

Moving away from hair because quite frankly I’ve had enough of it, I lost 1.5lb at Slimming World on Wednesday 🙂
I don’t think the scales are going to be quite so nice next week after the amount of wine and champagne I drank yesterday but if I can stay the same I’ll be happy!

Dear Diary Our Week – October 12th

Dear Diary October 12th

October 12th – Last week we bought Halloween costumes, this week we’ve had to buy clothes for the wedding we’re going to next Saturday.
It’s Ant’s niece’s wedding in Yorkshire and the girls are really excited about going. I’ve got to get up early so I can curl their hair with one of those ringlet curling tongs!

I nipped to Asda today with Ant and we bought Kaycee a new dress, shoes, tights and cardigan. Ella had shoes, cardigan and tights but no new dress because she’s already got one.
I bought some new shoes for myself and Ant bought me a gorgeous new white orchid 🙂
I’ve got a lovely pink one that my father in law bought me for my birthday a few years ago and I love it. It flowers for months at a time and the flowers are just so pretty.

We’ve been checking out different types of self-catering accommodation in Wales and Scotland this week as we’re planning our holiday for next year in October.
We’ve been looking at Haven, Hoseason’s and some private rentals. We haven’t found the perfect place yet but we’ve got plenty of time to keep searching.
Ant wants to stay by a lake so he can take the kids canoeing and I’d like to go somewhere with woods and lots of wildlife so I can take loads of photos.

We seem to have been inundated with review products this week. The girls have got loom bands, headbands, dress up clothes and noisy toys to review and Ant’s been sent an e-cig to try because he’s giving up smoking so look out for all those sometime this week!

How’s your week been?

Dear Diary Our week – Oct 5th

I’ve never been very good at keeping a diary but I’m going to try writing a weekly one rather than a daily one as part of my #101in1001 project.

Oct 5th – This is the week we bought Halloween costumes for Kaycee and Ella. Thankfully Aiden’s not bothered about Halloween so he didn’t want a costume. I don’t know if it’s just me but it feels like Halloween costumes are getting much more expensive than they were when Aiden was younger.
I used to be able to get him one for less than a fiver and now you’re lucky if they’re less than a tenner!

Dear Diary Oct 5th

This was also the week we all had to be treated for scabies.
To be honest, I’ve never had to deal with scabies before so I had no idea what it was; I had to Google to find out and it’s not nice.
I haven’t had any symptoms but I read it can take weeks for the itching to start so it didn’t matter if we hadn’t had symptoms, we had to cover ourselves in cream from the neck down.
Poor Kaycee seems to have been affected worse than the rest of us. She’s had terrible itching, so much so it’s been waking her up in the night. The doctor thought it might be eczema so we’d been treating her for that.
Ella’s itching was starting to get worse and when we took her he said they were both suffering from scabies.
Hopefully, we’re all clear now but it says the itching can carry on for a few weeks so poor Kaycee and Ella have to live with it for a bit longer yet.

I handed a form into the charity shop this week to become a volunteer. I go in quite regularly to see what new books they’ve got in and they always seem really lovely. I think it will do me good to get out more 🙂
I bought 2 Thomas Harris books from there the other day, I now only need one more and I’ll have the set of The Silence of the Lambs books.

The kids have just come home from Aiden’s dad’s and they brought his dad’s new puppy, Dash, to see me. He’s soooo cute!

I think that’s all for this week 🙂
