52 Weeks of Gratitude – Week 12

Week 12 of 52 weeks of gratitude - Nanny, KayCee and Ella

Week 12

  1. Family
  2. A wonderful Christmas. I’m now a little sad that it’s over.
  3. Being totally spoilt by my family. I had lots of wonderful gifts πŸ™‚
  4. Having the kids home today after their being away for a week with family.
  5. No school until Tuesday so we have some time left to play more games that the kids got for Christmas.
  6. Having a working car again. Yep, that was on the last list I did and the flipping thing broke down again. We’ve been using Nanny’s car during December while ours was in the garage.
  7. A renewed sense of determination with Slimming World. This is going to be another good year of great losses, like my first year.
  8. Watching all the Indiana Jones movies with Ant over the last few days. I love the films and enjoyed watching them, just the 2 of us πŸ™‚
  9. A lovely New Years Eve spent at Nanny’s with Ant and Granddad. I managed to stay awake until midnight.
  10. The feeling of hope the new year brings.

52 Weeks of Gratitude – Week 10

Week 10: Here’s what I’m thankful for this week:

week 10 - sky through the trees

1) Having my husband home for the weekend (he’s sleeping at his mum’s for a while because she’s not well at the moment) and looking forward to having him home again this weekend as Kellyann’s coming again to stay with Nanny.
2) Ant buying a Blu-Ray player because our DVD player stopped working. We’ve already had it fixed once so he just went and bought a new one so I can watch all my Christmas DVDs πŸ™‚
3) My very unexpected 2lb loss at Slimming World this week.
4) A lovely day spent with the husband on his birthday. He loved the gingerbread birthday cards Kaycee and Aiden made him and the Christmas cookies Ella made him because she didn’t want to make a card!
5) The rain. I know it sounds weird but I love spending a cosy day indoors while it’s raining outside.
6) My father in law for always being willing to nip into town for me when I need something. I don’t drive and Ant doesn’t like driving in town so I always turn to the trusty FIL!
7) The manager of the charity shop letting me volunteer. I really enjoy it and feel like I’m spending some time doing something worthwhile rather than wasting it surfing the net which is what I’d be doing if I were at home!
8) Making new friends at the charity shop πŸ™‚
9) Kaycee’s help with, well, everything! She’s brilliant at organising things and helps with birthday preparations, housework, Christmas stuff, as I said, everything!
10) The delicious Chinese takeaway the S.W.H. treated us all too tonight. I’ve not had Chinese for over a year and I really enjoyed it.

Why not take a look back at last week’s post: Week 9

52 weeks of gratitude – week 9

Here are the things I’m thankful for in week 9 of my 52 Weeks series πŸ™‚

week 9 - a gnome swinging in the apple tree

1) My husband for taking care of me while I’ve been sick
2) Happy girls in Halloween costumes
3) Christmas stories from the charity shop ready for our story a day for advent
4) Ibuprofen!
5) Movies 24 changing to Christmas 24 πŸ™‚
6) Aiden, Kaycee and Ella helping with the housework because I’ve been sick
7) Having the bed to myself while I’m sick, even though I do miss falling to sleep snuggled up to my husband. I don’t have to worry about keep waking him with my coughs and sniffles and what feels like constant wakings.
8) Ella’s fearlessness when it comes to snails! Somehow a snail got in our downstairs shower room and gave me a fright when I got up off the toilet and saw it there on the cistern! I shouted Ella and she saved me πŸ˜€
9) Tesco clubcard points and being able to double them up. I’d saved Β£99 worth of points over the year which I doubled up and spent on Christmas presents for the kids. It does feel good being able to order Β£200 worth of presents and not have the bank balance go down by that much!
10) Last but not least,Β  because there’s no way I’d be up to having to go to the actual shop to get our groceries this week!

  • Ant’s been staying at his mum’s as she’s fairly immobile at the moment. She is waiting for an operation. He does get a break when his oldest daughter comes to stay with her Grandma on the occasional weekend.

52 Weeks of Gratitude – Week 8

Week 8 and I’m grateful for:

1) Christmas bargains. The Santa ones remind me of the kind of decorations we had when I was younger, I just had to get them!
2) A relaxing weekend ahead
3) Being able to turn off the alarm this morning (I have a feeling I’ve put this before and maybe more than once because it really does make me happy when I can switch it from auto to off!)
4) Maintaining my weight this week instead of gaining
5) Feeling in control of my eating again
6) The support from family and friends with my weight loss journey
7) Warm gloves and a fluffy scarf
8) The chill in the air that tells me Christmas is getting closer
9) Comforting casseroles
10) Charity shop bargains. We’re collecting the Kathy Reichs, Temperance Brennan series of books and I found another four at the charity shop today. They only cost Β£5 for the four πŸ™‚ We don’t have the first one yet though so I can’t start reading them πŸ™

52 weeks of gratitude – Week 7 – I think!

I’ve not been very consistent with my 52 weeks lists but I figure as long as I do them, it doesn’t matter how long it takes me!

52 weeks of gratitude

1) Autumn. It’s my second favourite season, the first being winter and the third being spring. I don’t do well with heat so summer is last on the list for me.
I love getting my warm fluffy socks out and I’ve just bought myself a lovely new pair of pink fluffy slippers πŸ™‚
2) Kaycee’s enthusiasm for making Christmas gifts. We’ve made a start on collecting items to make hampers and she’s as excited as I am!
3) Ella settling into her new school. She’s finding junior school more of a challenge because they make them do more work but she’s enjoying it and that makes me happy.
4) Aiden finally figuring out that wearing his glasses is good for him and makes seeing a lot easier!
5) Finally getting the book cases painted and the books organised with the help of the S.W.H. (super wonderful husband) however we both keep popping into the charity shop and coming out with more books. This isn’t helping the book storage problem we currently have!
6) Our apple tree. It gave us a huge amount of fruit this first year in our new house and the apples are gorgeous. I’m very thankful for this lovely tree that as soon as I saw it, made me want to live here!
7) This house. I sat the other day and it hit me how much happier and relaxed I’ve been living in this house. It feels like we’ve always been here and that we’ll always be here. I guess this is our forever home πŸ™‚
8) My lovely new dishwasher!
9) Finally getting back on track with slimming world. I’m feeling very determined!
10) My husband. We’ve been married nearly 10 years and we’re still really happy together. I love him more than I can say.

52 Weeks of gratitude – Week 6

Ella and Logan - 52 weeks of gratitude

I missed a few weeks when I lost my blogging mojo but I’m back and ready to link up with This Enchanted Pixie’s 52 weeks of gratitude πŸ™‚

1) I finally got to meet my gorgeous new nephew, Logan and had lots of cuddles πŸ™‚
2) Eating dinner outside in the gorgeous weather
3) Meeting lovely bloggers at my first blogging event
4) Watching the girls have fun in the paddling pool
5) Enjoying a lovely afternoon in the nice, cool library and seeing Ella and Kaycee get so excited about starting their summer reading challenge πŸ™‚ Ella read her first book over the first 2 days!
6) Planning out our fairy garden. We’re going to do it under the apple tree although I’ve just realised it might not be the best place seeing as the tree is so laden down with fruit, the branches are actually touching the floor and the apples are starting to fall off now. It may be a bit hazardous to the fairy garden but we’ll how it goes!
7) Seeing the girls enjoying camping in the garden. Since the holidays started they haven’t slept in their own beds! the tent has to come down though because the grass needs some sun and water before it dies and I need to mow the lawn before the birthday BBQ on Saturday.
8) Looking forward to seeing family at the weekend at the aforementioned birthday BBQ
9) Making a start on the garden. I have big plans and can’t wait to get going with them because the state of the garden right now is really depressing me.
10) The smell of the sweet peas that I actually grew myself this year πŸ™‚

52 Weeks of Gratitude – Week 5

I’ve been on a bit of a blogging break which means I’m behind on my week 5 – 52 weeks of gratitude list, as well as my alphabet photo project. I also didn’t finish my ‘How does your garden grow?’ post last Thursday either so I’m playing catch up now!

I started this list last week then lost my blogging mojo. I was struggling to find more to add to the list, not because it had been a crappy week, but just because it had been a perfectly normal week with not much happening.

Until Friday.

After Friday I had A LOT to be grateful for!

1) The feeling you get when everywhere is nice and tidy and the kids have actually helped get it that way instead of contributing to the mess in the first place!
2) I’m happy that the weather was lovely for Ella’s last sports day at infants school. It was a bit sad thinking that shes only got three weeks left at her school. We’ve had children there for nearly 10 years and we’ll miss them in September.
3) Seeing Ella walk into Beavers with her new Beavers jumper. We’d been waiting a while for it to be delivered and she was very proud to be able to show her leader that she’d finally got the right uniform!
4) We’ve been on a mainly vegetarian diet this week; the kids still had ham in their sandwiches and bacon for breakfast occasionally but the main meals have been veggie ones and I have to say I’ve really enjoyed them.
I’m trying a green week on Slimming World and I think it may be the way forward for me. I love having so many vegetables in the house and trying new recipes daily.
5) Seeing Kaycee engrossed in her new book. She said at dinner last night that’s glad she bought it because she’s really enjoying it πŸ™‚
6) Girly giggles from Kaycee and Ella (and manly giggles from Aiden!) when daddy pretends to be Dynamo and disappears behind the curtain!
7) Family dinners at the table.
8) Birthday excitement….it’s my birthday on Saturday and we’re having a bbq at Kaycee’s request.
9) New fans for the bedroom because our window is really big but only has one tiny window that opens and I keep waking up too hot.
10) I’m extremely grateful and thankful that the lovely lady driving the car was paying attention when I tripped on the pavement and fell into the road just as she was coming up beside me.
She managed to swerve, missing my head by what felt like mere inches.
I banged my elbow and knee when I fell and now have bruises and grazes on both. We were both very shaken and I had to phone Ant to come and pick me up and take me to Ella’s school (I was on my way to fetch her at home time) then put her bike in the boot so he could drive us home.
It didn’t hit me until later how much worse it could have been and I’m thankful to still be here, enjoying my family πŸ™‚

52 Weeks of gratitude – Week 4

It’s week 4 of 52 weeks of gratitude and here’s what I’m thankful for this week:
1) The rain – saves me a job watering the garden!
2) The look on Kaycee and Ella’s face when I told them I’d ordered them 2000 loom bands in a storage box with charms, board and hooks. They were so excited!
3) Movie night with the S.W.H. (super wonderful husband) watching Forrest Gump
4) Taco night with tacos made by Kaycee followed by banana and ice cream pancakes made by Ella (with a little help from mummy!)
5) Music of the week – Madness
6) Ice cream
7) Strawberries and cream for the family, strawberries and fat free Greek yogurt for me because I’m being good and really want to get that 8 and a half stone award next week!
8) Water guns and paddling pools
9) The concert Kaycee and Ella put on just for me at bedtime last night instead of story time πŸ™‚
10) Our lovely GP who saw Kaycee and Ella this week. They haven’t been to the doctors since they were tiny and couldn’t remember ever going. They were a bit nervous but our GP put them at ease and now they’re not worried about having to go again.

52 Weeks of Gratitude. Week 3

I’m joining in with This Enchanted Pixie and her 52 weeks of gratitude linky. Here’s my week 3 list πŸ™‚

1) Having my dad come to stay for a couple of days last week. I don’t get to see him as often as I’d like because he lives in Derbyshire and I live in Lincoln so it was lovely to spend some time with him while he was on holiday from work πŸ™‚
2) Lovely weather – it hasn’t been particularly hot but it’s not been raining and the temperature has been just right for me.
3) Music – the music of choice today is Nirvana and Guns N Roses. Right now I’m listening to Paradise City and trying to remember the words I used to know without even thinking!
4) Reading again – I’ve been struggling to find something to read. Nothing I’ve picked up recently has kept me hooked. I’m hoping the Britmum’s book club book of the month, The Judas Scar, is going to get me reading again because I really miss it.
5) Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. Not slimming world friendly at all but boy did I enjoy the peanut butter cup flavour!
6) Lilies again – The previous owner planted loads of them and every day I’m seeing new ones open. I now have deep red ones and some cream ones πŸ™‚
7) Aiden’s dry humour – the other day I asked him to plug the fish in. He got down on his hands and knees, looked at all the plugs and extension lead and said, totally deadpan, I don’t see any fish mum.
It still makes me laugh now, days later, when I picture his face and hear him saying it in my head!
8) Seeing Ella’s delight when her dad came home from work with a football for her on Wednesday. She does a football club at school and wanted to be able to practice her skills at home.
9) Kaycee’s kindness – She wanted to make peppermint creams the other day but not for herself, for her teacher and friends at school and some for us. She’s always thinking of others.
10) Last but by no means least, my super wonderful husband who took care of me when I had a migraine at the start of the week and while doing so, did all the laundry and cleaning and walked the girls to school and back.
