  1. Smart Soft Furnishings

Now is your chance to really let your hair down when it comes to soft furnishings. Understanding what kind of patterns, shades, shapes and textures work in your home can make the world of difference. You should aim to incorporate a different pop of colour into each room in your home. You could be working with a completely nude living space, but adding a hint of electric blue or ruby red will really lift it off its feet. Soft furnishings can come in the form of cosy cushions, chic curtains and many other useful accessories. They not only serve as a functional addition to your home, but they also enhance the smart and sophisticated style. Use soft furnishings to your advantage and find pieces that exude elegance and class.

  1. Soothing Shades

There are so many reasons why neutral colours are the best way to go when decorating your home. First of all, it gives you a totally blank canvas to work with when it comes to accessorising. If you use too many bright colours you are limiting yourself when it comes to the finishing touches for your home. Opt for pastels if you want a hint of colour in your home, or even better go for creams, beiges and whites. You can have much more fun injecting colourful cushions, rugs and curtains if you have a neutral backdrop.

  1. Magic Minimalism

Having a cluttered home is never going to be soothing for any homeowner, so minimalism is definitely the way to go. Think about all of the various stray items around your home. Could they be moved or boxed up in another place? More often than not, ornaments, excess frames and other accessories can clutter up your peaceful home environment. You might find that a minimalistic approach to your space brings the touch of class you are looking for.

  1. Stunning Scents

Have you ever walked into somebody’s home and been instantly intrigued by the aroma? Believe it or not, every single home has a unique scent that sets it apart from any other. You now have the chance to personalise this scent to suit your tastes and preferences. You can make a huge impact on your guests by surrounding them with lovely smells and soothing aromas. This will also help you to feel more comfortable in your own home. By using candles, diffusers or incense sticks your lovely abode can smell like lavender or vanilla in an instant!

  1. Savvy Storage

Knowing how to manage the storage in your home will bring you one step closer to complete sophistication and elegance. There are so many clever methods you can adopt when it comes to storage space, especially if you are working with a smaller apartment or tiny home. Why not invest in chic leather storage cubes that can also be used as footstools in your living space? You can use these to keep DVDs, books and other odds and ends so that you don’t need to have them on display. Incorporating these small, but savvy storage elements into your home will help you to keep it looking clean and pristine all year round too.

  1. Cosy Corners

There are a number of ways in which you can make your home cosier and more comforting. Having a corner in your home that makes you feel completely at ease is very important; this area in your home can serve as your little escape every time you get stressed or overwhelmed. It could be a cosy corner in your living room that contains a huge, welcoming armchair and your favourite book. You might prefer to create a blissful environment in the bathroom so that you can escape and have a bubble bath whenever you feel anxious. Find the spot that makes you feel completely at ease and make it your own. As far as sophistication goes, this could be one of the best additions to your home in a long time!

Every homeowner is completely unique when it comes to their style, tastes and preferences. There are a number of different ways to incorporate unique interior decisions into your amazing abode so that your flair has truly been added. You might find that some of these ideas appeal to you and others don’t. Use the ones that make you feel most comfortable; some might be in keeping with your current style choices and others might be way out of your comfort zone. All in all, you should use this as an opportunity to create a more sleek, sophisticated and elegant vibe throughout your happy home.

3 Easy Ways To Dress Your Windows

Changing the way you usually dress your windows can make a huge difference to the feel and style of your room.
Window dressings provide privacy as well as protecting you from the harsh glare in the Summer and keeping the heat in during the Winter.

Window dressings are an often overlooked, but very important feature of any room. It’s important to do some research to help you choose the right style, not only for your taste but also to make sure they’re doing the job you need them to do.

Of course, your lovely window dressings can be totally let down if your windows aren’t in the best condition. For quality new windows at the right price, check out Budget Windows in St Albans.

Dress Your Windows

1 – Curtains

When it comes to curtains, the choice can seem endless and maybe even a little overwhelming.

If you’re after a window dressing that makes a statement, layering is a good choice. These light and dark curtains look great together and let in lots of light, making the room feel nice and airy.
If you like waking with natural light, these curtains are a great choice as the light can still get through, but it will be muted so you’re not suddenly awakened by bright sunlight in your eyes.

2 – Blinds

Before buying blinds for your windows, you need to decide which type of blind will work best for your needs.
If your space is small and doesn’t get much natural light, a good choice is matchstick blinds. They let light in while maintaining your privacy.

Roman blinds are also a good choice for small spaces. They don’t create the fabric bulk you get with curtains. The pleats look lovely when the blind is up during the day then it hangs flat against the window at night.

Roller blinds can be a great choice. They’re easy to fit to size yourself. They can also be swapped out easily for different colours and patterns, especially if you like to change your decor with the seasons.

Like curtains, roller blinds and roman blinds come in a huge variety of colours and fabric types so all you need to do is find the right one to fit the room decor.

3 – Combination Of Both

combine curtains and blinds

If you like the look and feel of curtains, but they let in too much light in the mornings, pair your curtains with blinds. The curtains need never be closed, they can be purely decorative because the blinds will be doing all the work.

Choosing curtains and blinds that complement each other, but don’t match, will enhance the design of the room.

Dare To Be Different

When you upgrade your uPVC windows, maybe think about choosing a window dressing you’ve never had before to show off your shiny new windows.
Choose geometric patterns in bold colours to inject some colour into the room or choose some calming botanicals in those rooms where you like to relax.

The choice is endless, go and have fun choosing new window dressings and maybe even new windows!

Scar Tissue – Book Review #19

I’ve been a Chili Peppers fan for over 20 years so I was really looking forward to reading Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis.

Scar Tissue

Here’s the blurb from Goodreads:

In 1983, four self-described “knuckleheads” burst out of the mosh-pitted mosaic of the neo-punk rock scene in L.A. with their own unique brand of cosmic hardcore mayhem funk. Over twenty years later, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, against all odds, have become one of the most successful bands in the world. Though the band has gone through many incarnations, Anthony Kiedis, the group’s lyricist and dynamic lead singer, has been there for the whole roller-coaster ride. Whether he’s recollecting the influence of the beautiful, strong women who have been his muses, or retracing a journey that has included appearances as diverse as a performance before half a million people at Woodstock or an audience of one at the humble compound of the exiled Dalai Lama, Kiedis shares a compelling story about the price of success and excess.

Scar Tissue is a story of dedication and debauchery, of intrigue and integrity, of recklessness and redemption–a story that could only have come out of the world of rock

My Thoughts

I don’t usually read the reviews before reading a book because I don’t want them to put me off. I should have stuck to that rule!

The first few reviews were by people who hadn’t finished the book because they didn’t like it. I was really looking forward to reading it before I read the reviews so I decided to forget them and dive in.

I really enjoyed it, probably because he lives in a world totally alien to me and it kind of validated my early teenage choices about drug use. I’ve never tried any drugs because I was always afraid of losing control. I’d heard stories from friends who had dabbled with drugs and far from making me want to experience the things they were telling me about, I was thinking, how can they do that to themselves?

Reading the book made me want to listen to their music again. I rarely have time to just sit and enjoy music anymore as I used to and I loved putting YouTube on the TV and having their music on while I was working.

I was actually quite sad when I came to the end of the book!
