Ant’s Cottage Loaf – Great British Bake Off Bloggers 2017

Cottage Loaf

I’m not putting the recipe here for the Cottage Loaf because Ant used Paul Hollywood’s recipe. I can’t comment on how it tastes as I don’t eat white bread at the moment. The fact that it’s now all gone, though, seems to suggest that it was lovely!

I have to thank Ella for her help with this blog post. She took the wonderful photos for me because I’ve been so busy this week. I’ve been moving Kaycee’s and Ella’s bedroom around and re-organising. Their room is now looking wonderful but the rest of the house isn’t doing so well! The mess seems to have spread throughout the rest of the house!

Anyway, back to the bread! Ant loves bread week because he makes fresh bread every day for himself and the kids. Ant likes to try different types of bread and new recipes.
He said he could taste the difference with the lard being added in this recipe. He never uses lard in his bread.

4 Myths about getting your carpets professionally cleaned

Myths About Getting Your Carpet Professionally Cleaned

Cleaning your carpets from time to time has many benefits such as better health and a cleaner home. With that said, however, there are many misconceptions and myths about getting your carpet professionally cleaned. This article will focus on dispelling those myths so that you can select a great cleaning company such as Aquatec Carpet Cleaning Edinburgh to help make your home tidy.

professionally cleaned carpets

  1. Steam cleaning will cause mold and mildew. It is not normal to have your carpets soaked for days. If you hire a company that makes your carpet wet for days, this could cause mold and mildew to grow and it is not normal. Be sure to give the company a call and let them know so that they can come remedy the problem before mold can grow. A reputable company will leave your carpets wet but they should dry within 12 hours. You will be able to use your carpets like normal and they will be clean and dry in very little time at all.
  2. A typical stain remover from the grocery store will remove a stain. This can actually cause your stain to set and be around forever. In fact, some stain removers actually attract more dirt and grime to them like a magnet which will make your carpet appear even dirtier. If you have a stain, it is best to use home remedies such as baking soda, dawn soap, or a mixture of vinegar and water. They will help remove stains without being harsh on your carpet.
  3. It is possible to get your carpets clean throughout your entire house for less than $100! This is simply not true. Be sure to read the fine print as there are typically stipulations that make the price more than $100. Be sure check the dimension of the rooms that are included for $100. Typically the smallest rooms in the house are included and additional rooms are more. Another thing to look out for is the optional add-on services that will cause your costs to skyrocket. Examples of these add-ons include deodorizers and stain guards. These additions will cost extra and are typically commissioned upsells for the technician.
  4. Having my carpets cleaned professionally will shrink my carpet. Most carpets are made of synthetic fibers that will not shrink when steam cleaned. The professional carpet cleaning company will test areas of your carpet to make sure that their service will work well and will not cause any damage to your carpet.

As with anything, there are myths that are typically dispelled. Carpet cleaning is no different. There are many great advantages to getting your carpet steam cleaned by a professional and there are very little negatives. The best course of action to ensure that you are getting the best deal is to read the fine print and ask questions before booking. When the technician arrives, again ask questions and before the service has started, make sure you are fully aware of the price you have committed to paying.

Don’t Let Go by Harlan Coben – Book Review #38

Don’t Let Go by Harlan Coben

I received an advanced copy of Don’t Let Go from Netgalley and have just published my review.  I’d like to thank Netgalley for giving me the advanced copy 🙂

My Review

Harlan Coben is rapidly becoming my favourite author. I have 5 or 6 on my ‘to be read’ shelf and a long list of all the others I want to buy.

Don’t Let Go kept me turning the page. I would have finished it much sooner if life and work hadn’t kept getting in the way!
I like the main character, Nap. This is surprising seeing as we first meet him using a baseball bat to break the knee and ankle of a man called Trey.

Nap Dumas

We soon find out that Nap is a detective who volunteers at a place for women and children who have been in abusive relationships.
Nap dishes out his own justice to some of the abusers instead of using the law to do it. Somehow I’m OK with that.

He is a twin but his brother, Leo, died when they were still in school. He and his girlfriend, Diana. were found dead on the rail tracks. There was speculation as to whether it was a suicide pact or an accident due to too much drink and too many drugs.

Around the same time his brother died, his girlfriend, Maura, disappeared. 15 years later he still has no clue as to why.

Conspiracy Club

Nap starts investigating the deaths when other people in their friendship group at school, suddenly end up dead.

As usual, I didn’t guess any of what happened. I was actually shocked to find out the truth about their deaths and why, 15 years later, members of the Conspiracy Club were being killed.

It was a great book and now I have to try and decide which Harlan Coben book to read next!

The book will be available to buy on 26th September.
