Shower Room Makeover – Before And After

Shower Room Makeover

We’ve never really liked the pink fittings in the shower room. We’re saving up to have them changed but until then, we’ve decided to embrace the pink!

I’ve been searching Google and Pinterest for ideas on the best way to decorate a room with pink fittings.

I can’t say I’ve ever thought about decorating with grey. When the first coat had gone on the walls, I have to admit that I got a bit worried.
I asked Anthony if he thought we should go and buy the lighter grey that we’d seen at B&M but he said I should wait and see how it looked when the room was done.

He was totally right because I absolutely LOVE it!

Before

It always looked messy because there wasn’t enough storage. Only one of the cupboard doors opened which was annoying, especially for me because I can’t bend very well due to having a bad back. I couldn’t reach into the far corner of the side with the fixed door.

Taking the doors off opened up all that storage space and looked so much better.

The paint didn’t cover very well when we first did it. You can’t see it on the photo, but when you go in the bathroom you can clearly see it looks all cracked.

We stripped off the wallpaper and painted the wall directly. It covered much better.

This corner always looked grubby, no matter how many times it was cleaned.

I love it now, it always looks clean!

You can see how this set of shelves got everything dumped on them. I really didn’t like it and was happy to see it gone!

It’s so much easier to get out of the shower without the shelves in the way 🙂

My favourite new addition to the bathroom has to be the shelves Ant built. They’re perfect for our needs 🙂

I love reed and essential oil diffusers. This black reed diffuser was a cheap one from B&M. I bought it because it was black; I don’t usually buy cheap ones because they don’t usually work very well, but this one makes the bathroom smell wonderful.

I know these wall stickers have gone out of favour, but I still love them!

The room was done on quite a small budget. Most things were bought at B&M. The wall stickers were from eBay and the wood for the shelves came from B&Q.

Tired old shower room in need of a makeover.

The garden and garage were the first two things that we loved about this house. The third was the shower room downstairs. We only had one bathroom in our old house and it was a nightmare in the mornings with two adults and three children all trying to get ready for the day.

We loved the idea of having a shower room downstairs and a bathroom with a separate toilet upstairs. Ant immediately commandeered the upstairs bathroom and toilet and I have to say, he’s quite possessive over them!

The girls and Aiden (and sometimes me!) are allowed to use the bath but for everything else, especially the toilet (although I do draw the line at going downstairs in the middle of the night!) we use the shower room.

I painted it magnolia when we moved in because the walls were blue and I didn’t like the colour with the pink tiles, shower, sink and toilet. I have to be honest and say I don’t like the pink bathroom set either!
It’s old and definitely looks very dated now.

I stalk Pinterest looking for new bathroom ideas almost daily!

It would be lovely to have a gloss white finish on the cabinets and a set called Moods on Bella Bathrooms would look brilliant in there. As an alternative, on a budget, option, there are some tongue and groove design units at Argos that are pinned to my board and I’d be very happy with them, especially as they’d totally go with my existing corner cupboard and shelf/towel rail 🙂

I asked Ant if we could move the sink next to the toilet then have a drawer unit and a tall unit next to them. He did some measuring and said yep, it’ll all fit 😀
Ant’s very good when it comes to plumbing so he’ll be fitting our new bathroom which will help enormously with keeping the cost down.

I’m thinking the floor needs to be white wood and hopefully the wood already down will be good enough to sand and paint.

In place of the shelves in the picture above, I’d love to have some floating shelves like these

to put things like these on!

I want to get away from pink and think a bold purple colour would look wonderful. I’ve pinned some items I’d like from the colour match range at Argos on my Pinterest board and I’m searching Google for the perfect purple coloured orchid which I think would look marvellous on those floating shelves 🙂

I added a shower curtain to my Pinterest board but I think the shower would look so much better with glass doors. We did plan on putting some in last year but the budget didn’t allow it at the time. Hopefully, this year will be the year we get a wonderful new bathroom!

Shower room – Before and After

This is our new, girly pink, downstairs shower room and we love it 🙂 Aiden, not so much!

There are two things I would have done differently if I were decorating this room again…..I would have bought the silvery lino and gorgeous pink flowery towels I saw in B&M when we first started shopping for the new house.

We decided to use the blue and white lino in the kitchen, upstairs toilet and bathroom and decided that it made sense to take it from the kitchen and into the hall and shower room.
I do like the lino and there is a bit of blue in the flower pattern on the tiles so it’s not completely out of place but I think the silvery lino would have made it perfect for me.

I can’t see the towels I liked on the website so I’m not sure if they still have them but I’ll have another look next time I go, just in case!

We’re going to be decorating the kitchen over the weekend so hopefully by this time next week I’ll have a kitchen again and it might start feeling like we’re actually getting somewhere!
