Apple Blossom – My Sunday Photo

Apple Blossom

It’s been a lovely warm and sunny day today. Ant and I have been away all week and only came home yesterday. Before we went there wasn’t any blossom on the tree.
Today I had to take a photo of all the apple blossom because it looked so pretty and smelt wonderful 🙂

I was delighted to see the mock orange bush we bought while on holiday for our 10th anniversary was in full bloom and also smelt amazing. Ant showed me a photo of the pond when we’d just planted the mock orange and I couldn’t believe how small it was!

How does your garden grow? May 1st

Wow, May 1st already. It’ll be Christmas soon at this rate!

I’m starting with some photos I took in my mother in law’s garden a couple of weekends ago.

She has an area of the garden planted with lots of spring flowers, in memory of her lovely husband, Jack and I took this photo there. I love these fritillary flowers. I must get some for our garden for next spring.

Talking of our garden….

I adore this apple tree! The blossom smells gorgeous when you get up close and petals look lovely floating softly to the ground.

Our lawn seems to have been invaded by these ants. At first I thought they were red ants and I took myself off to Google to find out how to get rid of them. Ella loves doing cartwheels on the grass and these little ant hills are popping up everywhere so I had an image of her getting covered in biting red ants.

I found, to my relief, that these are actually yellow meadow ants and are harmless so they can stay 🙂 Ella’s fine with them being there now she knows they aren’t going to bite her and I feel great about not having to kill off what must be a huge, wondrous nest under our lawn.

After worrying that my peony had been harmed in the harmed during the move, I’ve seen its first ever flower bud today 😀 I’ve had this peony 2 years and I’ve been really looking forward to the first flowers 🙂

Don’t you just love the tiny blue flowers of forget me not? They’re so pretty. I rescued this plant from my mother in law’s garden last year when she had her driveway made bigger and I was very pleased to see it come back again this year.

Remember when I said I didn’t have much luck with lupins at the old house because something kept eating them? Well as you can see, something has had a good old munch of these recently. I have to find out how to stop it or these are going to be all eaten away before they get chance to flower.

One of my favourites has to be aquilegia. These are a different kind to the ones I had before so I need to try and find some the same because the flowers were bigger and came in different colours on the same plant. Don’t get me wrong, I love these ones, I just want some of the others as well. I remember collecting seeds at the other house but I can’t remember what I did with them. Hopefully when I’m unpacking more kitchen stuff I’ll come across them 🙂

I’ll leave you with the first lot of plants to start growing that Kaycee and Ella planted for their new business! They came running in the other day, out of breath but so excited to tell me that some of the seeds had started to grow 🙂
