1) White Truffles
The ordinary truffles are pretty expensive, and if we talk about the white truffles, they are more expensive. The reason behind their high cost is that they require specific conditions for growth and are only found in Croatia and Italy. However, they are well-known for their aroma and taste and the methods involved in preserving them. In Europe, the white truffles cost around $2100.
2) White Pearl Albino Caviar
White Pearl Albino Caviar is undoubtedly the most expensive food product in the world. It is made from the eggs of rare albino fishes and costs around $300,000 per kg. The Albino Beluga fish that live in the Caspian Sea produces these rare caviar eggs. Unfortunately, due to the big catching of these fishes, they are near to being extinct in their native habitat.
3) Swallow’s Nest Soup
It might sound weird to eat the nest of the bird, but it isn’t. It is another expensive dish being loved by the people in the world. It is a nest of the Swallow birds which is made by their saliva and no other material. The birds make their nest on the cliffs, and reaching those cliffs to get the nest is a great ordeal. There are risks of falling off the cliffs, making it a costly dish of about $3000 per kg.
Saffron is one of the most precious and costly food items in the world. It requires a massive amount of labour for the cultivation and cutting of the spice. The Saffron Crocus or Sativa flowers grow in Autumn for only seven days, and they need to be handpicked and roasted very carefully. This makes them the most expensive spices costing around $500 for a single ounce. It grows in Asia and the Mediterranean.
5) Moose Cheese
Moose cheese is the rarest and most expensive cheese in the whole world. It is so costly because it is produced in Sweden only at the Moose Farmhouse. The milk of Helga, Juno and Gullan only is used to prepare it. It is prepared only with the milk of Gullan, Helga, and Juno. Each Moose produces 5 litres a day from May to September only, making the farm sell only 300 kgs of cheese per year. The Moose Cheese costs around $1074 per kg.
6) Kopi Luwak Coffee
Kopi Luwak Coffee is known as the most expensive coffee in the world. The Kopi Luwak seeds or Civet coffee comes around after an unusual process. The whole production process might look a bit awkward, but that is how it is. First, the Civet cats or Palm Civet eat the coffee beans. Then they pass out faeces that are collected, processed and finished to be sold as one of the rarest types of coffee. It is produced on a very small scale and has a short supply, thereby increasing the demand for coffee and its cost. It is sold in a range of $250 to $1200 per kg.
