4 Things To Look For When Hiring a Construction Contractor

This is a collaborative post

Construction projects are an important milestone in everyone’s life. As you make this big step in life, the importance of making spot-on choices cannot be overestimated. Note that the project is a lifelong decision and therefore, blunders cannot be entertained. To get the best value for your money, you need to surround yourself with professionals, including a construction contractor and a construction cost estimator. If you are not versed with information and thus able to ask savvy questions before hiring your contractor, you will probably get it all wrong. To prevent this unfortunate occurrence, here are four insights you can rely on to settle on a good contractor:

  • Look for a contractor with reliable credentials

You can only trust that the contractor you are hiring will do a commendable job if the contractor has reliable credentials. One of the ways you can be sure of the contractor’s credentials is to find out whether the contractor is licensed. However, this is not a foolproof indication of a reliable credential and you can ascertain the credibility by looking at past projects of the contractor as well as the references. Only hire a contractor once you are satisfied that they are qualified and credible for the job.

  • Area of expertise should be related to your construction project

Do not make an assumption that all contractors have the same specialities. To get the best result, ensure that the contractor you hire has the skill set needed for the job. For instance, if you are constructing a mini-mall, hire a contractor with expertise in mini-mall construction. To avoid going through the hassle of figuring out a contractor’s expertise, hire firms such as Buildme rather than hiring individuals. This is because construction firms have experts in all areas and will thus be in a position to deliver specialized professionals to carry out your project from start to finish. Hence, by virtue of hiring the firm, you are guaranteed of getting the right contractor for your project.

  • A payment schedule that suits you

How you pay your contractor is equally important as how much you pay the contractor. Insist on drawing up the payment schedule before the construction begins. This will help tell a lot about the contractor you are hiring. For instance, a contractor who insists on paying upfront is basically communicating two things: he/she is worried you might not like the job enough to pay at the end, and that they are in a financial crisis. You should not hire such contractors if you intend to obtain the full value for your hard-earned dimes.

  • The kinds of recommendations about the contractor

The world today works in a very transparent manner, courtesy of networking. Before hiring a contractor, use your networks to your advantage. Figure out whether the contractor is recommended by the people he/she has worked with or for in the past. This will help you to gauge the kind of person you are trusting your cherished project on. If there are no positive recommendations, do not hire the contractor.

Danish Rye Bread Open Sandwiches #GBBOBloggers2018 Week 8

I really wanted to try the Danish aebleskiver but we don’t have one of those pans so Ant made the Danish rye bread open sandwiches instead.

I’m not a lover of rye bread, I have to admit so I haven’t tasted any of it. Ant made the open sandwiches for his lunch and he really enjoyed them.

He used Ruby’s recipe for the rye bread and did 2 different toppings. The first was Ham and Italiensk Salat and the second was Kartoffelmad (Potato Food)

We’re going to have fun doing the bake along next week as we’ll be in a caravan in sunny Mablethorpe and I can’t imagine they’ll have lots of baking equipment in there!

I’m baking along with Jenny from Mummy Mishaps and Helen from Casa Costello
