When it comes to filtering your water, there are so many different types available. If you have just started looking at water filters, you may be shocked at how many different types there are and how many different methods of water filtration are available. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. We’ve put together a list of 7 different types of water filters and how they work. This will help you make the best purchasing decision you can, depending on your circumstance.

Reverse Osmosis

If you live in an area where you are concerned about the water that comes into your home, then a reverse osmosis system might be the option for you. These filters are best if you are dealing with things such as lead in the water. Reverse osmosis uses pressure to push water through a filter and then traps the bacteria and lead in the core. You can purchase whole-house systems, under counter systems and point of entry systems. The only real drawback to reverse osmosis is that they pull everything out of the water, which includes all the minerals that we need. But they are very effective at removing any dangerous contaminants.

Sand Filters

Sand filters are up and coming in terms of popularity. They have previously been used for pools, but now the technology is being applied to home, under the counter systems. Unlike reverse osmosis systems, you need to change out the entire filtration system rather than clean the filters due to the sand. When water passes through the system, the sand and gravel filter out the contaminants and leaves you with clean fresh water. If you are in an area with lead, this system won’t be enough to remove this.

Ceramic Filters

Ceramic filters are more effective than sand, as the porous membrane can capture more contaminants than sand. The ceramic filters will capture anything that is larger than the pores in their membranes. The most common ceramic filters are at the point of entry. This means that the filter system is placed at the pipe where the water enters your home. A ceramic filter will remove contaminants to make sure you can drink, eat and bathe in your home.

Charcoal Filters

Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been burnt to make sure that it is more porous. It has become one of the most used filtration systems available due to its cost-effectiveness and ease of access. Charcoal isn’t enough to filter out contaminants such as lead, but it is enough to remove some bacteria and other contaminants that you find in the water. However, it does keep the minerals and salts in there that you need to stay healthy. You can have activated charcoal filters in a variety of filter systems in your home. Most commonly is filtration jugs that you fill up and put in the fridge. You can also get charcoal filters for your taps. So, if you just purify your tap water and don’t want to use a jug, a charcoal tap filter is a cost-effective way to do this.

Water Filter Jug

If you don’t want to invest in a whole-house system or under the sink option, then a very cost-effective and easy way to filter your water is by using a water filter jug. These have a different type of filters in them that last for a while, but you will need to replace them on a regular basis depending on how often you use them. These are ideal if you live in an area which has very hard water. They are good at removing high levels of chalk and some bigger contaminants. If you live in an area with a bacteria or lead problem, this system won’t be enough to remove these as the holes are too big. However, if you want access to fresh clean water, this is a good way to do it. You just need to remember to fill it and put it in the fridge.

UV Filtration

UV filtration has been available on a small scale for a long time, but now it is becoming more established for residential purposes. What we really like about UV filtration is the fact that you don’t need to add anything to the water, you simply harness the power of energy and the UV will kill the bacteria within the water. Before you look to install a UV filter you need to make sure that you understand what type of power source your body of water will need. If the power isn’t enough, the UV filtration won’t work and won’t kill the bacteria. The systems are easy to install, you can do it at the point of entry or you can treat it from your tap, but UV filtration is an excellent way to kill bacteria in your water.

Fibre Filters

If you want to keep it simple, you can use fibre filters. You can get these for faucet filters and jug filters. They are geared for smaller filtration systems as the filters aren’t as effective as such systems as reverse osmosis. The way fibre filters works are when the water passes through them, they trap anything that is bigger than the pores. This means that they can trap chalk and some bigger bacteria. They will need changing more regularly than others such as sand and charcoal, but they are a quick effective method of purifying your water.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of different types of filters and filter systems on the market. Once you have worked out what you don’t want in your water, it makes it far easier to choose a system that meets your requirements and your budget. If you do live in an area where there are fears that there is lead in the water, then look to invest in a reverse osmosis system. These are one of the best systems that are available on the market, but they do strip everything out of the water, minerals included. If you just want a cleaner, safer water, UV filtration is a cost-effective way to do this. Before you jump in and make your decision, make sure you have taken into account filter type, what kind of system you want and the cost associated with it.

Pampering Your Dog

Animals are like humans too. They also have necessities and you can even spoil them in every way you can. Thus, having a dog comes with great responsibilities. You have to feed them, give ‘em vitamins, take them to the vet, bathe them, and more alike. In all ways, you have to keep your pet healthy and loved.

Other people do not only treat these pets as animals but much more as their babies. Many dog owners prefer to call themselves a “Fur Mom or Dad”, while they call their pets “fur babies”.

A fur baby can be referred to as a cat or a dog, depending on what the fur parent chose as a pet. Fur parents are the ones who often give much more attention to their fur babies. They spoil them with love and with their needs – that’s why you can see a lot of businesses growing today in the line of pet care.

Exercise with your dog every day. Human as we are, we do exercise every day to keep our mind and body engaged. Canines also need to exercise to keep their body strong and active. Walk them to the park or around your neighbourhood. In that way, both of you are exercising.

Feed your dog on time and give them clean water to drink (read more). Train your dog if you can or bring them to a pet trainer – they do lovely tricks and can also save your life if something happens to you. Always bathe them! You wouldn’t want your couch and bed to stink or walk on your floor with scattered fur.

It’s always a challenge to take care of something or someone. Pets, especially, are sensitive towards what we feel and everything around us. They do the best they can to make us feel comfortable and happy. Always remember, if you’re happy, then they are happy as well. Don’t forget to love them too and give them a good belly rub!
