4 Tips to Renovating your Kitchen

Today’s new homeowners are a very discerning bunch. They want spaces that are efficient functional, and – of course – beautiful. However, sometimes it is just not possible to get all that in one house. This is especially true when it comes to the kitchen. The good news is that you do not have to pass up an otherwise great new home just because the kitchen is not up to snuff. You can simply renovate it!

Designing a functional kitchen space is not an easy prospect. However, when done correctly, it can be very rewarding and change the feel of the entire home. Here are four kitchen renovation tips that will help you create a space that you are proud to show off.

  1.  Focus on Function

Whether you are working with a large or small space, you can still use it efficiently. Most people tend to go a little overboard when they are planning the kitchen in a new house. However, this can lead to design decisions that will make it harder for you cook and clean.

Your number-one priority should be coming up with ways to design a “working triangle.” This refers to how you should lay out the sink, stove, and fridge in your kitchen. Since these form the three most-used points in any kitchen, it is a good idea to have them at an equal distance from each other.

  1. Turn on the Lights!

One of the most important factors to consider when designing a new kitchen is lighting. With the right lighting, you can make the space look bigger and brighter. You should have two types of lighting in any kitchen:

  1. a) Ambient lighting: These include ceiling fixtures, track lights, and wall sconces. Use these fixtures as the main source of lighting in your kitchen. You can also add in a dimmer switch to adjust the mood and intensity.
  2. b) Task lighting: You can use these fixtures in areas that are normally too dark or shadowy. These include fixtures like pendant lights, recessed lights, and under-cabinet fixtures.
  3. c) Be Realistic about Appliances

Renovations present a great opportunity to inject a bit of style into your kitchen space. That said, it is easy to get carried away – especially when it comes to appliances. Do you really need that restaurant-grade six-burner stove? It might be pretty, but does it fit in with your lifestyle or needs?

Unless you are training to be the next star chef, never blow your budget on appliances that you do not really need. Instead, funnel your money into things that will add value in the long-term, such as flooring, countertops, and cabinets.

3. Clean up the Mess with a Dumpster Rental

Any kitchen renovation project will result in a huge amount of dirt and bulky trash meaning your best bet is to find a cheap disposal solution. In fact, most people waste a lot of time making multiple trips to the dump to get rid of small bundles of trash. The problem with this approach is that it can slow you down and add days to the whole project.

If you want the job done faster, then you should think about hiring dumpster rentals in Cedar Park. Not only will this save you time, but it will also ensure that your waste is disposed of in an efficient and environmentally friendly way.
