Apple drizzle cake – #GBBOBloggers2016

I’ve been wanting to join in with Jenny’s Great British Blogger’s Bake Off (#GBBOBloggers2016) for the last couple of years. I kept meaning too but something always got in the way.
Kaycee (11) loves GBBO and likes nothing more than being in the kitchen, baking so I signed her up to take part with Jenny and we’ve committed to baking something every week, based on the bakes of each show.
Kaycee has made an apple drizzle cake this week. We have loads of apples on our tree again this year and we needed to use them up.

It’s biscuit week next time and Kaycee can’t wait to get baking again 🙂

Apple drizzle cake

Ingredients:

Self-raising flour – 220g
Butter (or buttery spread) – 220g
Sugar – 220g
Eggs – 4
1 Can apple pie filling (we used our own apples but I’m not sure how many we used or how much sugar. We just dolloped a load in from the huge tub of cooked apples we have in the fridge!)

For the drizzle:

50g Sugar
Water – add a spoonful at a time until it’s a runny mixture that can be drizzled over the cake.

Method:

Preheat the oven to 200°C/180 fan/Gas 6

Grease and flour a cake tin.

Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Whisk together the eggs then add to the butter mixture a bit at a time and beat.

Add the flour when all the eggs have been beaten into the mixture and fold in carefully using a metal spoon.

Add the apple pie mixture and fold in carefully.

Pour into the prepared cake tin and bake for 35-40 minutes.

When the cake has cooled, drizzle over the sugar mixture and allow to set. You can add more sugar to the drizzle if you prefer a crunchier topping.

Serve warm or cold with ice cream or custard.

    Love the sound of your apple cake! I wonder if apple juice would work in the drizzle too?
