Easy cinnamon rolls

Our advent activity yesterday was to make cinnamon rolls using a packet of puff pastry. I was going out with some lovely ladies and a gentleman from my Slimming World group and needed a quick activity.

If we’d all have been concentrating, it would have been really easy but things just went wrong!

We forgot to brush the pastry with melted butter after rolling it out then we forgot to put cinnamon in Kaycee’s batch!
For some reason, Kaycee’s sugar just oozed out all over the tray and ended up tasting like bonfire toffee and I didn’t check the temperature on Ella’s oven and it wasn’t hot enough so it took twice as long to cook.

They were still edible though and they’ve nearly all gone now so it wasn’t all bad 🙂

Cinnamon Rolls

To make your own cinnamon rolls, you will need:

A packet of puff pastry at room temperature
20g melted butter
150g soft brown sugar (we used dark, but you can use light if you like)
Ground cinnamon to taste
Some water to seal the pastry and some icing to drizzle over the rolls

Pre-heat oven to 180 C/Gas 4

  1. Roll out your pastry till it’s about 1cm thick
  2. Brush with melted butter
  3. Spread the sugar all over the pastry, going right up to the edges
  4. Sprinkle cinnamon over the sugar
  5. Roll up the pastry on the longest side, keeping it tight
  6. Using a sharp knife, slice into 12 even pieces and place on an oiled baking sheet
  7. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes until golden.
  8. Remove from oven and allow to cool
  9. When cool, drizzle over the icing
