10 Fudge Recipes to Try This Christmas

Home / Christmas / 10 Fudge Recipes to Try This Christmas
10 Fudge Recipes
The master fudge maker in this family is my Super Wonderful Husband, Anthony, but this year I’ve found fudge recipes and am giving it a go myself.

Fudge makes a really lovely homemade gift so I thought a selection of different flavours presented in a lovely gift box would be well received by our family and friends.
I think the girls will enjoy helping to make them as well, especially the 2 ingredient fudge that’s cooked for a few minutes in the microwave!

I now have to go searching ebay for the right kind of gift box and ribbon to package them up 🙂

Kaycee’s and Emma’s Christmas Raffle

Home / Christmas / Kaycee’s and Emma’s Christmas Raffle

Kaycee and her friend, Emma, wanted to rent a stall at the Brownie’s Christmas fair yesterday. They borrowed some money to buy goodies for the Christmas raffle prize hamper and to pay for the stall then paid it back when the tickets were sold.

Sorry for the poor quality, I didn’t realise how blurry they were until I got them on here. They looked ok on my phone!

Christmas Raffle Hamper

They did really well, selling about 30 tickets at £1 each. After they’d paid back the cost of the stall and the hamper they’d made £7 profit each 🙂
They gave a donation to one of the charities the Brownies were collecting for and spent some of it at the fayre.

Kaycee’s saved some of hers for the next time she goes shopping.

They both worked really hard on making the posters and putting together the hamper and we’re all very proud of them 🙂

Week 9 - A gnome swinging in the apple tree

Here are the things I’m thankful for in week 9 of my 52 Weeks series 🙂

week 9 - a gnome swinging in the apple tree

1) My husband for taking care of me while I’ve been sick
2) Happy girls in Halloween costumes
3) Christmas stories from the charity shop ready for our story a day for advent
4) Ibuprofen!
5) Movies 24 changing to Christmas 24 🙂
6) Aiden, Kaycee and Ella helping with the housework because I’ve been sick
7) Having the bed to myself while I’m sick, even though I do miss falling to sleep snuggled up to my husband. I don’t have to worry about keep waking him with my coughs and sniffles and what feels like constant wakings.
8) Ella’s fearlessness when it comes to snails! Somehow a snail got in our downstairs shower room and gave me a fright when I got up off the toilet and saw it there on the cistern! I shouted Ella and she saved me 😀
9) Tesco clubcard points and being able to double them up. I’d saved £99 worth of points over the year which I doubled up and spent on Christmas presents for the kids. It does feel good being able to order £200 worth of presents and not have the bank balance go down by that much!
10) Last but not least,  because there’s no way I’d be up to having to go to the actual shop to get our groceries this week!

  • Ant’s been staying at his mum’s as she’s fairly immobile at the moment. She is waiting for an operation. He does get a break when his oldest daughter comes to stay with her Grandma on the occasional weekend.

Angel Delight - A favourite dessert

Angel Delight was a favourite dessert when I was growing up, probably like many people my age.
I remember always looking forward to family parties where my Nan-Nan (we’ve called my Grandmother, Nan-Nan from when we could talk and we still do) was doing the catering because her food was always wonderful.

My favourite part was always the desserts, as you’d probably guess.

Nan-Nan would make a blackcurrant jelly, top it with a blackcurrant Angel Delight (which I haven’t seen for years and reallllyyyyy really miss!) then pipe whipped cream on the top of that.
It truly was THE BEST dessert my childhood self ever had!

I’ve tried it with strawberry jelly and Angel Delight but it’s just not the same. Maybe I should start a petition to get them to bring back blackcurrant Angel Delight!

We were sent some of the new bubblegum flavour Angel Delight and rather than use both packets to make a dessert, we decided to use one of them to make the milkshake, using the directions on the back of the packet. It was delicious 🙂

Angel Delight - A favourite dessert
Ella uses any excuse to get the wine glasses out and pictures for a blog post is as good an excuse as any!

I bought other flavours of Angel Delight and we decided to make pancake faces using sweets, jelly and the Angel Delight 🙂

I’m currently on Slimming World so I decided to leave out the pancake and just have an Angel Delight layered dessert with a few sweets to make the face 🙂
Definitely worth the syns!

Kaycee and Ella loved making their pancake faces but next time we need to make the pancakes a lot smaller! They kept piling on jelly and sweets and squirty cream then struggled to eat it!

I think when my kids grow up, their Angel Delight memories will be the layered desserts because they love making them in tall glasses for a special dessert 🙂

While looking through my albums on my phone to get the pictures for this blog post, I found some selfies Ella had taken while I was busy cooking the pancakes!

Rainy Day Fun For The Kids

Rainy Day Fun - Hama Beads

Now that Halloween and Bonfire Night are both over, I find myself in a state of panic trying to
think of new and exciting ways to make a rainy day fun, for the kids in the lull between now
and Christmas. With the good old fashioned British weather not on my side, I’ve
had to think of a few ways to keep my little ones entertained over the years. If you’re new
to this or are just looking for something different, here are a few indoor
treats that I cannot recommend enough.

rainy day fun
Build a fort
Who says that fun with the little ones needs to be expensive? You can create your own fairy tale
fantasy land just by throwing together a few pillows. Take the cushions off the
sofa, pull the bedsheets out from the laundry cupboard and pile your pillows
high – your little princesses can play the damsels in distress while the boys
can try their best knight in shining armour act.
Nothing helps to keep you warm in winter like a few homemade cookies and biscuits, and
everybody knows that kids love to get their hands dirty with eggs, flour and
goodness knows what else. To really get creative, try using different icing,
glitter, sugar paper and whatever you can get your hands on – you could even
try to stick to themes to make as gifts for loved ones.
rainy day fun bake a cake
Make a treasure hunt
If your kids are anything like mine, then they’ll love a challenge. What’s more, it’s also as
much as a challenge for the person coming up with the clues as it is for the
people doing the treasure hunt, so make sure you really go to town with your
creativity. Consider writing the clues in poetry form or use riddles to really
throw your little ones off. Make sure the treasure incentive is big enough to
keep your kids searching for hours – perhaps a big treasure chest of sweets?
Grab a deck of cards
Who needs XBoxes and PlayStations when there is a wealth of fun to be had from a simple £1 pack
of cards? If you fancy yourself as something of a magician, you can look up a
few tricks online to really impress your kids, or if you want to get them more
involved, why not teach them a few card games? For smaller children, blackjack
can be picked up in minutes.
Cards are our overall favourite way of making a rainy day fun.

Weekly weigh in – 1.5lb lost

Home / Slimming World / Weekly weigh in – 1.5lb lost

I’ve been in control all week and felt better for it. It paid off with the 1.5lb lost that I gained last week. I’ve also been sick though since last Wednesday with a horrible cold so I’ve had Beechams and  Tunes and Halls lozenges.
I didn’t syn them but I think they were about 10 syns for the three packets and they’ve been spread over the week.

I checked how I did last week after not knowing all week and I only put a pound and a half on which was a lot better than I was expecting.

Today, with the 1.5lb lost, I now need to lose exactly a stone to get me back to my 8 and a half stone award weight and 1 stone 7lb to get my 9 stone award. I’d need to lose 4lb a week now to get that by the weigh in before Christmas week which I think is impossible but I’m leaving my chart as it is because it might just spur me on to try my very best!

Dear Diary – Our Week, a day late!

Home / Family / Dear Diary – Our Week, a day late!

Somehow I forgot to do our dear diary post last week so this one will cover the last two weeks, depending on how much I can remember!

Dear Diary

Charity Shop Interview

I went for an interview at our local charity shop last week as I applied to be a volunteer. The interview went well, as did my first afternoon.
I found all the procedures for sorting and pricing the clothes, bedding, curtains etc really easy to pick up and I was fine on the steamer, but then after managing a laundry it would have been a bit embarrassing if I weren’t!

I really enjoy working there. All the people are lovely and it’s great to get out and chat to people instead of being at home all the time.
Also, I get to see all the books as they come in and can have the first pick before they go out on the shelves!
I’ve already put about 10 children’s Christmas books to the side for me to pick up next week. I want to collect 24 books so I can wrap them up and the girls can open one each night at bedtime during advent 🙂

This week the girls were eagerly awaiting Halloween because they were going to a party with my best friend, Jo.

Dear Diary - KayCee in her Halloween costume

Dear Diary - Ella in her Halloween costume

They had a great time if the photos on Facebook are anything to go by! Kaycee said she was too hot all night because she did loads of dancing 🙂

They phoned last night to say they were going to see some fireworks at a public display in town. They were very excited. They’d been asking if we could have some fireworks in the garden but I’m hoping we don’t have to now they’ve been to a proper display!

Brownie’s Christmas Fair

Kaycee had a friend round for the day on Thursday. They both go to Brownies and next Saturday is the Brownie’s Christmas fayre, Instead of going in uniform and helping out on the Brownie stalls, they want to rent a table and run their own raffle.

They’ve borrowed some money from Ant and he took them to the shops to buy chocolate and biscuits for the hamper prize.

They made posters and decorated the box for the hamper then arranged all the prizes inside. I must say it looks really good.
They’re going to have a small Christmas tree on the table with shaped gift tags hanging from it. You pay a pound, pick a gift tag and write your name and number on the back then put it in a box for the winner to picked randomly when all the gift tags have been sold.
If they sell all the gift tags they’ve worked out they should make £10 each after paying Ant back for the table rent and the raffle prize.
They’ll then probably spend their earnings on all the other stalls at the fayre!!

Christmas Raffle hamper

Movies 24

Talking of Christmas (which I’m sure I’m allowed to do now Halloween is over, right?!), Movies 24 has now changed to Christmas 24 and this makes me very happy! Admittedly, I’ve been watching Christmas for the past week because True Movies changed to True Christmas a week or so ago and though I tried not to watch them in October, I couldn’t help myself!
