Green day in the garden

No, unfortunately not ‘The’ Green Day (for Ant who won’t know what ‘The’ Green Day is….it’s a group I used to listen to when I was a Kerrang addict!!) but greenhouses and green paint, as well as little green caterpillars.

This morning Ant prepared the area where the new greenhouse is going. It’s a walk in one as opposed to the small five-tier shelf one we bought earlier this year but it’s still made from tubes with a plastic cover. (Please ignore the different colour greens on the shed. We haven’t got round to finishing the painting on the shed yet!)

We need to get some grit to cover the ground under the greenhouse. It stops the slugs and snails getting into the greenhouse and B&Q seem to have run out.
We did get more weed control fabric and some nails so Ant can build the seating area so it wasn’t a wasted journey.

I’ve been getting nails out of the wood before treating it with green wood preservative. While taking a break, I had a wander round the garden and noticed some green caterpillars on the cauliflower leaves.

Good job we’re not worried about not getting a harvest this year! There were quite a few dotted on all the plants.
Ella’s pumpkin plant continues to amaze me. It’s huge now and although we’re getting flowers almost daily, we haven’t seen any signs of any pumpkins. Good job we’re not worried about that either! The plant is lovely, pumpkins or not and we’re definitely going to keep on growing them.
We’re growing it up some canes for support as we don’t have room to let it grow along the ground as you usually would.

After sorting out the greenhouse area, Ant moved onto the sunken seating area while I cracked on with the painting.
He dug the hole deeper where the pond used to be and shaped it ready to line the base with stones. He dug loads of soil out, as you can see in the picture.

Doesn’t look much now but I know it’s going to be wonderful when Ant’s finished and I can’t wait to sit with him, in the quiet of the evening, watching the water trickle over the stones on our lovely waterfall 🙂

We’re both shattered and had takeaway delivered for dinner because we couldn’t be bothered to cook!
Feels good to have got so much done today though. Fingers crossed we’ll get good weather again tomorrow so we can get loads more done 🙂
