How I Used Tailwind To Go From 70k To 731k Monthly Views

In the summer holidays, I decided I needed to learn more about Pinterest. I’d had an account since the days when you had to be invited and used it occasionally.
I was a casual pinner; I’d sometimes get hooked and be on there daily then I’d get fed up and not go on for weeks.

Jen Stanbrook Pinterest Course

After reading articles on other blogs about how Pinterest helped them get more page views, I looked into it a bit more.
I came across a free course by Jen Stanbrook and signed up.

I learnt how to make Pinterest worthy images and the best board and pinning practices among other things. The most important thing I learned is that Pinterest isn’t a social media platform, it’s a search engine.

Tailwind

Jen talked about Tailwind and how it had made pinning much easier for her. I checked it out and now I’m a paying customer.
It really cuts down the amount of time I need to spend on Pinterest and my stats have increased exponentially.

I started taking screenshots of my monthly views numbers I could see if Tailwind was working for me. The following screenshot was taken on September 14th, 2017

These figures are totally down to Tailwind. I spend about an hour a week scheduling pins and tailwind does the rest!

How I Use Tailwind

Here’s how I cut right down on the amount of time I had to spend on Pinterest and got better monthly views than I’ve ever had:

  • Click on the little Tailwind icon at the top of a pin. It appears when you move your mouse over it.

How to use Tailwind

  • A new window will open with your pin on it. I used to scroll down, pick a board then schedule the pin. Doing it this way didn’t save me much time.

  • Instead of scheduling each individual pin using that window, move the window out of the way. I move it to the bottom left of my screen so only a corner is showing (see image).

  • Now I just carry on clicking on the Tailwind icon of each pin I want to pin to a particular board. The board I was pinning to here is called Christmas gifts.

How to use Tailwind

  • Once you’ve pinned all you want to, go to Tailwind and click the down arrow on the Publish tab then click on Drafts

How to use Tailwind

  • All your pins will be on the Drafts page. Choose one or more boards from your list of boards

  • Once you’ve picked your board, click on Schedule All Drafts

  • All your pins will now be scheduled. You can shuffle the queue if you don’t want all the same kind of pins posting on the same day.

If you’re adding a pin to more than one board, you can schedule the interval between pins. I usually schedule them a day apart.

I’ve used the analytics on Pinterest to check my monthly figures and put them on an Excel sheet

Pinterest stats

My Google Analytics is now showing Pinterest as the number one referrer on the social media section and it’s thanks to Tailwind scheduling 🙂

Why, Pinterest, why?

I don’t get it.

Not Pinterest, I get that. What I don’t understand is why I feel a little excitement in the pit of my stomach every morning when I go to open it?

I mean, I’m never going to have a huge american style house with a kitchen to die for. I’m never going to have window seats everywhere full of big squashy cushions that scream out to you to sit, just for a minute and relax while you gaze out at your wonderfully manicured lawns and let’s face it, I’m never going to make all those craft ideas I pin either!

So why do I keep going back? Why do I keep pinning recipes I’m never going to make? And why do I keep making more and more boards, pinning things to them then never looking at the board again?

I’m sure there must be some psychological explanation why I keep going back, why I spend far too much time on there when I have loads more productive things I should be doing!

I’ve just noticed that I’ve got a board on there called Pin Addicts.

Some bloggers set up a linky earlier in the year and the aim was to actually make something that you’ve seen on Pinterest then show it off to the rest of the Pin Addicts.

I was really excited and joined in for the first couple of linkys but then, even after buying ribbon and elastic to do my next project, I kept putting it off and ended up stuffing the ribbon and elastic to the back of the cupboard and I stopped pinning things to my Pin Addicts board.
I really don’t know why! I see these things and I want to try them but getting the motivation to get up and do it is another matter altogether!

I think I should start joining in again, at least then, I’ll have something to show for the endless hours I spend daydreaming on that site!

Calm Jars

I saw these on Pinterest and had to have a go when someone made them for the Pin Addicts challenge last month.

However, I didn’t have any pink or blue food colouring, glitter glue or tubes of glitter as the girls had used them all on Monday so I figured I’d try it with the only glittery thing we had left; glitter paint.
We’ve got gold, silver and pink glitter paint and the gold only had about one quarter left so I thought I’d try that.

I filled a jar with hot water from the tap then squeezed in the gold paint. It looked like a sparkly gold worm lying at the bottom of the jar and I felt sure it wasn’t going to work. I gave it a good shake anyway and was delighted to find it worked perfectly 🙂

No need for glitter glue, extra glitter or food colouring. The colouring in the paint colours the water and the paint makes the water thicker so the glitter floats nicely.

The girls LOVE it and KayCee asked if she could make a pink one so I saved her the next jar I emptied. Of course, Ella wanted to make one then so there’s a jar in the dishwasher for her for tomorrow! She’s going to make a silver one.

We also added warm water to the paint bottles, put the lid back and removed the label. The girls had a friend round to play today who also liked the calm jars so KayCee gave her the gold and pink paint bottle ones for her to take home for herself and her brother 🙂
