The Christmas Basket – Debbie Macomber – Book Review #45

I needed a change from dark, suspenseful thrillers and The Christmas Basket was just the ticket.
Debbie Macomber is my favourite author of Christmas books. I know they’re schmaltzy and to me, that’s a good thing when it comes to Christmas stories!

I started this book on a Sunday night and finished it Monday morning when I should have been working!

The Christmas Basket

Noelle (so named because she was born on Christmas Day) was still in love with her high school sweetheart. It had been 10 years since she’d seen him and part of her hated him. He’d stood her up when she was 16 and they’d planned to elope.
Not being able to deal with the hurt, she left her hometown and didn’t return for 10 years.

The only reason she returned after all that time was because her sister was getting married.

Thom, Noelle’s love interest, felt the same way about her as she did about him.

Crossed Wires

Of course, things are never as they seem in a Debbie Macomber story and we soon learn that both of them had been wrong about what had actually happened the day they were supposed to elope.
To confuse things further, though, Thom’s mother, Mary, and Noelle’s mother, Sarah, had fallen out 20 years ago after being best friends. They’d never been able to get their friendship back on track and this caused problems for Thom and Noelle.

Happy Ending

It wouldn’t be a Debbie Macomber novel without a happy ending and this one certainly made me happy! I found myself smiling while reading and feeling all Christmassy 🙂

I’m reading all Christmas stories for the rest of my 2017 reading challenge and I’m looking forward to my next book. It’s another by Debbie Macomber and it’s called, The Snow Bride.
