Big Brekkie – Christian Aid Week

Big Brekkie

Big Brekkie

I have to confess to not really knowing anything about Christian Aid. I’d heard of them, obviously, but I didn’t know what they did.

I remember being given a little red envelope when I used to go to Sunday school. I’d take it home and give it my mum who would put some change in it and give it back to me.

I’d take it back to Sunday School the following week and hand it in. I never really gave any thought as to the people who might need our help.

A group of British and Irish church workers founded Christian Aid in the 1940s. They wanted to help European refugees who had lost everything after the war.
The first Christian Aid week was organised in 1957 and the charity had started to help countries outside of Europe.

Christian Aid Week is 14-20 May 2017 and this year, they’d like us all to host a big brekkie. This year it is focusing on the refugee crisis. The news, for the past few years, has been full of stories about refugees. Christian Aid believes that everyone should be safe and looked after.

Here’s what Christian Aid has to say about it:

Sharing a meal can bring us together and help break down the barriers between us.

And this Christian Aid Week, it can do so much more than that.

By inviting your friends, family and colleagues to a Big Brekkie fundraising breakfast, you can show love for people living in poverty and suffering injustice around the world.

Help fight injustice with a Big Brekkie

Jesus’ passion for justice inspired the first Christian Aid Week collectors to come together to raise money for refugees in 1957.

Now, you can be part of this incredible story of the church in action.

Host your very own Big Brekkie and follow in the footsteps of thousands of Christians who have made a huge impact over the last 60 years.
