How does your garden grow? September 27th

I’m running late with my garden post this week and in fact my blog has been a little neglected recently what with new cookers/kitchens and some other exciting things that are happening at the moment  for us. I hope to be able to share it all with you very soon 🙂

Back to the garden however, and this week I’ve been in my mother in law’s garden again working on the border. I laid a row of edging bricks so that the stone mulch we’re putting on the border doesn’t all go into the lawn.
I still have to dig the border over then weed mat it and cover it in the stones. I’m hoping to get this finished over the weekend.

We’ve decided that next year when the weather is better we’re going to cement the stones in on the path because at the moment it isn’t very easy my mother in law to walk on and we need to make it totally safe for her.

She’s got some lovely colours in her garden at the moment…

I love these Chinese lanterns and can’t wait for the orange lantern to turn into a transparent mesh, exposing the lovely orange fruit inside. Apparently, they’re edible when they’re fully ripe but poisonous until then (but please don’t quote me on that because I could be wrong and I don’t want anyone eating them and getting sick then blaming me!).

I don’t know what this flower is called but I love that it seems to have been in bloom forever and is still going strong!

Red berries just make me feel all Christmassy and they’re in abundance in Nanny’s garden!

Again, I have no idea what this is called but it’s been in flower all summer and still new buds to open. I love the soft pink colour.

As I said, lots of red berries! This is a cotoneaster. We used to have one in our garden before I got rid of it but now I’m regretting doing so because the bees love it in the summer and I love the red berries in the autumn so I think I might take a cutting for our garden 🙂

I never know how to tell the difference between mushrooms and toadstools so I don’t know which these are but when I saw them they fascinated me, all growing in a nice shaped clump like that. I think I may have to have a google to find out what they are!

I think the pink one with the little round buds is called Japanese Anemone. They bloom nice and late! While you are digging up the bed for the weedmat, put some under and around the bricks to keep the grass from sneaking in the spaces between them.

Beautiful shots. I used to have Chinese Lanterns and this post reminded me that I miss them.
